CyanogenMod Teasing Taking Photos from the Quick Settings Panel

CyanogenMod is one, if not the most popular custom ROMs out there. They basically take stock Android and release it for hundreds of devices. But over the years they’ve added many other features like quick reply for the messaging app. Apollo music player, and so many others. Now they are showing off a new way to take pictures.

This new feature is currently under review, and man does it look cool. It’s developed by Nebojsa Cvetkovic. This new addition would place a new camera tile in the Quick Settings panel, so it would only work on CyanogenMod 10.1 since that’s Android 4.2. The idea is that when you tap the panel, you get a live viewfinder capable of taking snapshots right from the notification shade. How much easier could it get?

The way it works is, the first tap on the new tile would start up your camera with continuous autofocus on, that’s if your device supports autofocus. How do you take a picture? Just tap the tile again. The important thing here is that pictures are taken at full resolution, just like if you opened the camera app and took a picture like you normally would. To turn off your camera, just simply close the notification drawer. It’s just that simple.

We’re not expecting it to impact battery much since the tile is only activated when you tap on it. So your camera isn’t running all the time. Which would be really bad. The difficult thing here would be taking good pictures. As centering objects to take pictures of will be much harder. Since you’re going from a 4.7-inch or larger viewfinder to a much smaller one. It’s still going to be a really interesting feature on CyanogenMod if it gets approved.

What will CyanogenMod come up with next? What do you think about this feature? Is it something you’d use? Let us know in the comments below.
