When the Galaxy S4 hit the market, it was made available in two separate variants, one for western markets which included a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, and the other for additional countries which was outfitted with an Exynos 5 Octa chipset. A lot of us here in the west would really love to get our hands on an Octa powered handset, but that’s beside the point.
As it would turn out, an ever more powerful variant of the Galaxy S4 is on the way. This new version will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip, and the first evidence of such has appeared over at the DLNA certification site.
The models, listed as the Samsung SHV-E330s, SHV0E330K and SHV-E330L are all different versions of the handset which will be available for several Korean carriers. In the image below, taken from the DLNA listing you can clearly see both the L and K Galaxy S4 models will include a Qualcomm MSM8974 chip. The MSM874 is actually the internal codename for the Snapdragon 800.
What the DLNA listing indicates is that Samsung will be producing a Snapdragon 800 based Galaxy S4, that’s going to be specifically introduced in Korea. At this time, we do not actually know if the upgraded handset will be released in additional markets. Judging by how things went down with the Exynos 5 Octa variant, it’s likely we may not even see the new variant over here in the west.
Still, I find it difficult to believe that Samsung wouldn’t want to release an upgraded version of the handset in other markets. After all, we were shafted when it comes to processing power, forced to settle with the lower-powered Snapdragon chipset. Would you like to see a more powerful variant of the Galaxy S4 over here in the west?
If Samsung did release a new variant of the handset, would you even be willing to purchase it? What about those of you who already own a Galaxy S4? How would you feel if Samsung released a more powerful version just months later?
Speaking from experience, I would be pretty upset. I don’t need to tell you I know how it feels, all I need to say is that my handset is the Droid Bionic. Hundreds of people just let out a cry of understanding at the previous statement.
