HTC are having an interesting year, they’re trying their very best to keep the amount of models down and release more quality than quantity. While that’s quite easy to do throughout the West, go a little bit East and things start to get a little more difficult. HTC know that different markets require different devices and so the HTC Butterfly was born. You might remember that the Butterfly came out of nowhere last year to become one of the first mainstream devices to feature a 1080p display. This went on to become the Droid DNA on Verizon but, back home in Asia the device proved to be a big hit for HTC.
The HTC One has been released in Asia as well but, it’s clear that HTC could do with another device for these markets that will really set HTC apart from the rest. We’ve been hearing rumors of an update to the Butterfly for some time and now, it’s looking like June 19th is the day and it’ll be called the Butterfly S. Taiwan media are getting invites to an event on the 19th – which you can see above – and it details the Butterfly S and the Desire 600 as well.
While it’s not yet known just what the Butterfly S is going to be packing, it stands to reason that HTC will keep the formula and the device mostly the same. The “S” used there as a suffix could mean an upgrade to a Snapdragon 600 or even an 800 but beyond that, we doubt HTC are going to roll out a whole new device. Especially not when they’re still pushing the One as their flagship device. Chances of this becoming a Droid DNA successor are slim as well, with the HTC One now heading to Verizon there seems little need for a Droid DNA 2.
With the Butterfly S coming soon, could this mean that HTC are going to do what they did to the One X and release a “plus” version in the West? Would that be a mistake if they did? Let us know in the comments below!
