As usual, Android Police have torn apart the new version of Google Play Music looking for hints at new features coming soon. They actually found a rather interesting one in today’s update. It appears that Google is going to add YouTube Playback to Google Play Music soon. Something we thought might be coming soon.
Android Police found some rather revealing text regarding the feature:
<string name=”finding_videos_for_track”>Finding related videos for the track…</string>
<string name=”no_videos_for_track”>No videos found for the track.</string>
<string name=”youtube_video_details_hd”>%1$s | %2$,d views | HD</string>
<string name=”youtube_video_details_nonhd”>%1$s | %2$,d views</string>
<string name=”youtube_video_duration_hms”>%1$02d:%2$02d:%3$02d</string>
<string name=”youtube_video_duration_ms”>%1$02d:%2$02d</string>
It appears that while listening to music, you will be to tell Google Music to find the YouTube video for that particular song. It also looks like you’ll be able to play that inside the app. Without having to jump to the YouTube app. Android Police found many instances of “video” views and styles in the xml file.
<string name=”menu_find_video”>Find video</string>
From the code above, you can see there’s the “find video” string. We’re assuming that you’ll be able to kick into YouTube mode from one of Play Music’s menus.
If you’ve used the desktop version of Google Play Music, then you know that ‘Share YouTube Video’ is already there. So it definitely looks like Google is bringing YouTube and Google Play Music together, which definitely isn’t a bad thing.
That’s about all they were able to find in tearing down the update. But it’s still a rather interesting look at what could be coming soon to Google Play Music. We’ll definitely have to keep an eye on this as it sounds really interesting and a feature I’d love to have in Google Play Music. I’ve been hoping Google would integrate YouTube into Google Play Music more. And it looks like I’m about to get my wish….soon anyways.
