Report: One More Google Edition Phone Coming This Year

At Google I/O 2013 this year, Google started a trend of releasing “Nexus Experience” devices. With this trend, the company teamed up with other manufacturers to release a model of their flagship running stock Android Jelly Bean. The company started this when it announced a Galaxy S4 variant running stock Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean at I/O. Following that announcement, rumors started making the rounds that claimed HTC was ready to launch an HTC One model running stock Android. As you are all probably aware, HTC and Google last month announced the HTC One running stock Android Jelly Bean. According to a new report, however, Google is still not done with Google Edition phones and still has one more in the pipeline.

According to a new report from Android Authority, Google is planning to release one more Google Edition phone sometime this year. According to a “source with knowledge of the matter,” Google had planned originally to launch three “Nexus Experience” devices this year, and logical math tells us that given the two the company has already released, there is still one more in the pipeline. The blog’s source couldn’t comment on what manufacturer Google was working with, however. It seems most likely that it will come from either Sony or LG, especially considering we have heard rumors of a Nexus Experience Xperia Z for a few weeks now. LG doesn’t seem all that likely, as the Nexus 4 is an LG phone and very similar to what other phones LG offers. The source also notes that this does not include Nexus devices, so we will probably still see another true Nexus device this fall.

Finally, the report claims that there will also be just one Motorola X Phone this year. This goes against previous reports suggesting that the X Phone would be a group of devices, but falls in line with what Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside said at the AllThingsD D11 conference.

Sony is holding a press event on June 25th in Germany where it is possible for the company to announce the stock Android Xperia Z in addition to the 6.44-inch Togari.

Who would you like to see make the third and final Google Experience phone for the year? Let us know in the comments!
