There’s no doubting that Samsung has had a huge amount of success over the last couple of years. The company has sold millions of its Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S4, and Note II smartphones, but despite all of the that, the company’s market value took a deep dive last week. The dive was centered around the supposedly slowing sales of its Galaxy S4 lineup. Analysts were worried that following the introduction of lower-end variants of the device, Samsung’s profit margins for its mobile department would decline. One analyst even claimed that sales of the company’s higher-end flagship devices were “lagging behind expectations, while low- to mid-end handsets are selling briskly worldwide.” A lot of bloggers downplayed this, as it seems to happen to every company when they become huge. There’s only so high you can go before you hit the ceiling and start to fall back down. In an interview recently, Samsung’s CEO even said that there is nothing to worry about and that the Galaxy S4 is selling fine.
While speaking to a group of reporters, Samsung CEO Shin Jong-kyun said that the sales of the device are fine. “I can say sales of the Galaxy S4 smartphone are fine. It’s been selling well,” Shin Jong-kyun told reporters after a meeting with presidents of Samsung affiliates at the company’s main office in Seocho-dong, southern Seoul.
He went on to say that the report that said the company’s sales were struggling was based on “bullish” estimates. “The report (by JPMorgan) was based on its own analysis. Probably, the bank may have corrected its previous bullish estimate about the S4 sales,” he said.
Following his defending of the Galaxy S4, he went on to tease the company’s upcoming camera technology, which we have reported on before. “Samsung will release our latest mirrorless camera that runs on Google’s Android software,” he told reporters.
It seemed hard to believe that the sales were struggling seeing that 10 million units of the Galaxy S4 were sold in the first month of availability.
