Samsung Unveils the ATIV Q, a Dual-Boot Windows and Android Tablet

During their press event earlier today, Samsung announced the ATIV Q tablet.  It’s a dual-boot device running both Android and Windows on a single platform. In other words, users will be able to choose what platform they’d like to use on their device, either Windows 8 or Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

The ATIV Q also features a 13.3 QHD+ display, with a whopping 3200×1800 operating resolution. Long story short, those are impressive specs for any device let alone a tablet. Samsung claims the device only weighs 2.8 pounds (1.29kg), and it’s just .54 inches (13.9mm) thick.

It’s powered by an Intel Core i5 Haswell processor, which according to Samsung will provide improved battery life all around rated up to nine hours. Interestingly enough, it will also come bundled with the S-Pen, the proprietary Samsung Stylus made famous by the Galaxy Note series. Along with the bundled S-Pen, ATIV users will reap the benefits of owning a stylus equipped device, as that includes all the related software and apps to make use of it.

In addition, it will include 4GB of installed RAM, and a 128GB SSD drive for storage. Standard ports are also included on the device like a MicroSD expansion slot, HDMI output and more.

A unique hinge design allows you to transform the device into one of four different modes. You can either use the ATIV as a tablet, raise the display like a laptop, move the display above the keyboard to a better angle, or even flip the display around using the keyboard as a stand.

Samsung made no mention of availability or pricing for the device, but we can expect it to be much higher than your average tablet. This is, after all a dual-boot device equipped with some impressive specs and power. It certainly seems like a great device, but there’s no question that it will be best suited for consumers interested in high-end tablets.

We’ll alert you as soon as we know more. What do you think of the ATIV Q? While we’re on the subject what did you think of Samsung’s press event? Let us know in the comments!
