Screenshots Leak of Galaxy S4 Google Edition, Running Android 4.3

Some screenshots have cropped up of a Snapdragon powered Galaxy S4 which happens to be running an early build of Android 4.3. Just to stoke the fires for those of you that don’t follow the Android scene closely, 4.3 would be the next version of Android.

Recently we also heard rumors that Android 4.3 was being prepped for the Galaxy S4 Google Edition model. These images appear to be proof of that.

The build number of the Android version is “JWR66N.S005.130625”. The actual build number of the OS is “JWR66N,” while “S005.130625″ is an identifier added by Samsung. Both the version number of the OS and the build number can be seen in the “about phone” screenshot below.

The screenshots come from SamMobile, where the information was first reported and made available.

Google has yet to officially unveil the next version of Android, so this news would suggest that OEMs already have the source code. That’s promising, because it also means we could see software updates sooner than later.

The other two images just show off parts of the update, like the new camera software and the splash screen for Android 4.3. According to the image, the new update will just be called Jelly Bean again. That means Google is still probably prepping the next big update in the background too. It’s possible that’s why we’ve heard so many rumors about both Android 4.3 and 5.0 Key Lime. Google may very well have more than one project in progress.

No matter what is going on, if these screenshots are authentic that means Android 4.3 should be launching sometime soon. Google is likely gearing up to announce the new Android update in a more official capacity soon. Then again, we could wind up waiting until the fall or even later this year.

What do you think of these images? Do you think a new version of Android is coming soon? How do you feel about Google’s decision to stick with the Jelly Bean moniker?
