Just yesterday, Sony announced the Xperia Z Ultra, and we did a comparison or two, comparing it to a few of the other devices available right now. Both flagships and other large screen devices, 6-inch of larger displays. Now we are seeing that the Xperia Z Ultra has landed on Amazon Germany for Pre-order and is asking around €679 for it. Which is the equivalent of $883 USD (according to Google).
We kinda expected the Xperia Z Ultra to be pretty expensive. In the past, Sony’s phones have been rather expensive off-contract. Almost the opposite of Nexus devices. We were keeping our fingers crossed for a lower price (say around $700) but we certainly are not surprised by the price of this one.
The Xperia Z Ultra has a 6.4-inch Full HD Display. It’s a huge device with that powerful Snapdragon 800 processor which hits around 2.2GHz in speed. That’s faster than some laptops – hell the new Macbook Air only does 1.3GHz. The Xperia Z Ultra also packs 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage along with a 3,000mAh battery.
Manufacturers have really been pushing that line of what we want in a smartphone and a tablet. Many of us love the size of the Nexus 7, and now we are seeing smartphones reaching that size. In fact there’s already 2 other 6-inch devices available. That’s the Huawei Ascend Mate announced at CES in January and the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 announced last month.
The Xperia Z Ultra isn’t confirmed to hit the US….yet. But it’s expected to arrive in Europe in Q3 which begins in about a week. We’re hoping to see it over in North America, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for it. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see the Xperia Z Ultra over here on all the carriers. Then Sony could be a real contender against Samsung. I’d even buy the Xperia Z Ultra instead of the Galaxy Note 3 this fall.
How many of you are hoping to get your hands on the Xperia Z Ultra from Sony?
