Which? Magazine Names the Galaxy S4 'Fastest Smartphone' – iPhone 5 Deemed the 'Slowest Smartphone'

We all love a good iOS vs Android battle right? Or is it Samsung vs Apple now?  Well, Which? magazine has gone and ranked many of the 2013 flagship devices from the fastest to the slowest. Of course, Samsung was number one.

The Galaxy S4 has a 1.9GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor with 2GB of RAM and the Adreno 320 GPU. But as many of you know, it’s not all about the hardware. Software optimization is a big part of the speed here. Samsung has tweaked the heck out of the Galaxy S4. Which they did the same with the Galaxy S3 last year.

Notably, the iPhone 5 was at the bottom of the list at number seven. Which the iPhone 5 has a 1.2GHz dual-core A6 processor, with 1GB of RAM. It scored 1,664 points on the Which? test. And the Galaxy S4 scored almost double at 3,188 points. Which isn’t all that surprising since the Galaxy S4 came out this year and the iPhone 5 hit last fall. But even phones that came out at about the same time as the iPhone 5 beat it. Including the Nexus 4 and Galaxy Note 2.

We had to let our fellow iPhone fans get a word in to defend why their favorite phone is at the bottom of the list. Here’s what Macworld says about the iPhone 5 in day-to-day use:

Our colleagues on PC Advisor (who are scarcely Apple apologists at the best of times) compared the day-to-day experience with the S4 and iPhone 5 and actually found the S4 laggier, despite its better specs and speed benchmark scores.

So what other phones were on the list from Which? magazine’s tests? Here are the top 7:

  1. Samsung Galaxy S4
  2. HTC One
  3. Sony Xperia Z
  4. Google Nexus 4
  5. Samsung Galaxy Note 2
  6. BlackBerry Z10
  7. Apple iPhone 5

Even the Blackberry Z10 is faster than the iPhone 5. Are any of you surprised by the results in this test? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
