Welcome back to another edition of AH Android Q&A. This is where you submit questions to us, and we try our best to answer them. Believe it or not there are actually some questions that we don’t know the answers too. But we aren’t afraid to say we don’t know the answer to them and we’ll usually go ahead and do a Google search and provide you with some links so that you at least don’t walk away empty handed. So let’s get started with this week’s group of questions.
Peter asks: Why does my battery drain from my s3 within four hrs? I shut down all my running apps WiFi Bluetooth and yet the battery drains at a ridiculous pace…replaced the battery twice….to no avail! Help !
Have you tried a factory reset? On my Nexus 4, Galaxy S3 and Nexus 7, whenever I start to see my battery life decline I always back up and do a factory reset and it usually gets much better afterwards. You can also try purchasing Zero Lemon’s 7000mAh extended battery for the Galaxy S3. That should ensure you’re phone lasts for a few days, as well.
Jason asks: Hi i just want to know how far the Exynos5410( S4 I9500) chip can be overclocked and underclocked and maintain its stability. Thanks 🙂
Well Jason, this is more of a trial and error type thing. I would suggest under or over clocking it one step at a time. Trying it at 1.7GHz or 1.5GHz, depending on which way you want to go. Run it like that for a day or two and if it’s running good, drop or raise it one more step. For me, I underclock my Nexus 4 to about 1.2GHz (stock is 1.5GHz) and don’t see any lag at all. But if I go lower, I will usually see some lag.
Ravi asks: I have a rooted Sony Ericsson live with Walkman…. Do you suggest I should upgrade to jelly bean…. If yes then how as clockworkmod recovery is not supported by my phone…. Thanks
Looking at the Specs for the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman on GSMArena, I wouldn’t suggest upgrading to Jelly Bean as you might encounter some additional problems. If you want to check out Jelly Bean, you’ll probably want to upgrade your phone. But if you want to flash a custom ROM on there, you can use TWRP recovery if it’s available. It also looks like CWM recovery is available. Here’s a guide of how to root and install ClockWorkMod recovery.
Scott asks: I have a problem with roaming on the southern border with the Mexican cell towers. I am rooted and am running a rom called Cleanrom 7.0, which I really like. However it is touchwiz based and not aosp. I have noticed that aosp roms have a setting under mobile networks/system that allows you to pick automatic or home only. Home only will keep you on your home network avoiding any roaming issues. Touchwiz does not have this setting. It has a popup instead that asks if you would like to deny roaming, which will leave your phone unable to be used as opposed to being able to use it with the AOSP home only setting. I have emailed the developer of cleanrom, Scott but haven’t heard back from him. Do you know anything about how to resolve this? Thanks.
Looking at my settings on my Galaxy S3 (Settings, More, Mobile Networks) do you have “date roaming” enabled? If you don’t have it checked, then you shouldn’t have a problem with roaming onto the cell towers in Mexico.
