Its clear that in the past couple of days, or even the past week that Motorola has ramped up their marketing for the Moto X and even the “controlled” leaks for that device and the new Droid line for Verizon. So we’re almost certain that the Moto X is coming very soon. We’re figuring it’ll be announced sometime this month. So what do we know about the device so far? Well Motorola has called it their “hero” device. Which usually points to a high-end device, that could save the company from going bankrupt. The proposed specs for the Moto X include:
- 4.3-inch 720p display
- 2GB of RAM
- 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor
- 16GB of storage
- “A Droid Razr Maxx-like battery” so probably around 3000mAh
- Android 4.2.2
There is also said to be plenty of customization options for the Moto X. Including being able to have it engraved, custom colors, wallpapers, and so much more. There’s also a rumor of it being $199 or $299 unlocked, off contract. Now that’s a crazy low price. But with these specs, it’s not too surprising. Especially since Motorola has said they want to hit the price range between the subsidized phones and the full price of $550 and higher for phones like the Galaxy S4. Now we also know that the Moto X will be a stand alone device. It will not be a Droid product. Which means Verizon will have the Moto X, and all three of the new Droid phones. That quite a lineup from Motorola. But since Verizon has had a rather slow 2013, it’s not surprising.
The Moto X has been hype beasted since last year. With a rumor coming out that Motorola and Google were working on a device together called the X Phone. It was said to not be a Nexus device, but to run near, stock Android. Which is something many of us, Tech geeks, will love. Then at D11 in May, Motorola’s CEO Dennis Woodside confirmed that the name is the Moto X and it’ll be available “late Summer” which to many of us means August or September. At this point, August is right around the corner, especially when you’re looking at the time between announcement and launch date.
We’re expecting the announcement for the Moto X to be any day now. Especially with them ramping up the buzz of the device. Hopefully we’ll learn something this week at their special event, even though AllThingsD is reporting that it will not be announced there.
