Android News U.K. Roundup 07/26/13 – New Nexus 7, Mobile by Sainsbury's, EE 4G and More!

New Nexus 7 Not Launching Till Late August to September in the UK

The new Nexus 7 is a powerful beast, with a stunning 1900 x 1200 display but, it looks like the UK is going to have to wait some time before they can get their hands on the latest tablet from Google. It’s unfortunate but, wholly unsurprising in the same breath. PCWorld and Currys have the device listed for pre-order and have a date of September 13th meanwhile, eBuyer is listing a date of August 29th for shipping. Prices are £199.99 for 16GB and then £239.99 for 32GB, respectively. There’s no word yet on a 3G or even 4G model so it looks like the wait for that one could be even longer.

EE Brings 4G LTE to More Parts of the UK and Doubles Speeds Elsewhere

The UK’s only 4G operator is rolling out 4G to more cities in the UK, bringing super-speeds to  Altrincham, Bedford, Camberley, Crawley, Farnborough, Farnham , Maidstone, Rochdale, Tonbridge and Welwyn Garden City. Not just that but, they’re rolling out their double-speed 4G in Belfast, Newcastle and Southampton. Double-speed from EE works using 2×20 Mhz spectrum and should ensure the network runs smoothly and quickly for all.

Kate Moss Accessories Available at Carphone Warehouse

Ah dear, here we go again. More fashionable accessories for smartphone and tablets that absolutely nobody was asking for. Kate’s back – no, not the one with the baby – and she’s partnered with Carphone Warehouse to bring some posh and pricey accessories to their store. To no surprise, the items are aimed at the iPhone and the Galaxy S4, with a “Universal Tablet Sleeve” slipping in there as well. Prices aren’t cheap, with phone cases standing at £25 and the tablet case skyrocketing to £40!! You can take a look here.

Sainsbury’s Launching Mobile Network to Take on Tesco Mobile

Sainsbury’s has launched “Mobile by Sainsbury’s” this past week to take on Tesco Mobile and target families with their offerings. Don’t get too excited though, as there really isn’t much to see. Right now it’s just a Pay as You Go service running on Vodafone’s network and there are only a couple of phones you can buy right now. Nectar points make a big addition here, with Sainsbury’s doubling whatever it is you use on the network, much like Tesco Mobile does with their Clubcard points. There’s an interesting feature called “borrow a pound” when you can use £1 of credit if you have run out, perfect for when the teenagers have used up all of their texts – again. There’s a ‘Basic’ tariff which offers calls from 8p per minute and texts for 4p each, data will cost 50p per day for a mere 25MB. Three 30-day bundles are also available, costing £10, £15 and £20, with all three offering unlimited texts and the most expensive providing 1GB of data. There are only six in-store shops right now across the country and it seems like this is just the beginning for Mobile by Sainsbury’s. The question is, can it hope to compete?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Arctic Blue Exclusive to Phones4U

Samsung promised a whole new rollout of colors last month and finally one of them is coming to the UK. It might be exclusive to Phones 4U but, the Arctic Blue color is hitting the UK soon. Whether or not another color is going to get you to buy the phone is up to you but, it’s always nice to see more options like this.
