One question we’ll be getting asked a lot between now and next Tuesday when the new Nexus 7 actually goes on sale is how does it compare to the Galaxy Note 8, or the Lenovo IdeaTab A1000 (working on the review now), or some of the other smaller tablets out there. So we’ve taken the Nexus 7, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8.0 and Lenovo’s new IdeaTab A1000 and put their specs side-by-side to see which one is the one for you. Sure there are others out there, but we can’t compare every tablet between 7 and 8 inches, there’s a ton of those.
As you can see the Nexus 7 definitely has the best display out of the bunch. The Note 8.0 has a 1280×800 display and the IdeaTab A1000 has a 1024×600 resolution display. But all of these tablets hit different price points. The IdeaTab A1000 hits the $149 price point, while $80 more and you’ve got a Nexus 7 and another $170 and you have the Galaxy Note 8.0 with the S Pen. Also notable is that the Nexus 7 and Galaxy Note 8.o do have 5MP camera’s on the back while the IdeaTab A1000 does not. We’ve already reviewed the Galaxy Note 8.0 and the IdeaTab A1000’s review is coming soon along with the Nexus 7 review. Which might help you decide a bit better which one you should pick up.
All three tablets are relatively good, but they all have their flaws as well. For instance, the IdeaTab A1000 has a 1024×600 resolution display, now that sounds bad, but it’s actually better than I thought. The Nexus 7 has a slightly smaller battery then we all expected, and the Galaxy Note 8.0 has a physical home button (personal preference) and has Android 4.1.2 which is now two versions of Android behind.
Does our comparison help you at all with what small tablet you should pick up? Or are you just going to go ahead and grab a bigger tablet like the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 or the new Nexus 10 this fall? Let us know in the comments down below.
