The new Nexus 7 has been rumored to be coming at Google I/O, coming in early-June, coming late June, coming in July and now late-July. Does anyone really know when it’s coming? In a word, no. We have seen a tablet pass through the FCC and Bluetooth SIG as the K008. Which we are expecting to be the Nexus 7. Of course, none of that is confirmed. The Economic Daily is reporting that the second generation Nexus 7 is being called the “new Nexus 7”.
An ASUS support rep has already confirmed the specs of the new Nexus 7, which we are expecting to sport a 7-inch 1920×1200 resolution display. It’ll be powered at a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. It’ll have a slightly smaller battery at 3,950mAh with a 1.2MP front-facing camera, 5MP rear camera, 2GB of RAM along with 16GB and 32GB storage options. Along with a new Nexus 7, we’re also expecting a new version of Android. Every time a new Nexus device is released, we get a new version of Android. We’ve also heard that the Nexus 7 will come with a Snapdragon 600 or a Snapdragon 800 processor. Of course, we’d love to have a Snapdragon 800 processor in our Nexus 7, I think the Snapdragon S4 Pro is a bit more likely at this point.
This Economic Daily report out of Taiwan has pegged the price of an LTE equipped 16GB Nexus 7 at about $229. Well they actually said 22,580 yen which translates to about $229 USD. So long story short, we still don’t know when the Nexus 7 is actually coming, but we know its coming soon. We’re guessing that Google has delayed Android 4.3 or even decided to skip 4.3 and go straight to Android 5.0 in the fall.
