Fancy a Trip Down Memory Lane? How About an OG Droid for $40 on eBay?

It’s nice to think how far we’ve come in recent years and when we think about smartphones, it’s incredible to think how much better the Android devices of today really are compared to those from just a few years ago. Many of you will probably have fond memories of the Motorola Droid, after it all it was once billed as “Verizon’s iPhone” and helped to launch Android as a viable competitor to Apple’s own smartphone. Droid-Life have uncovered a listing on eBay for the Droid that started it all for just $40 refurbished.

The OG Droid is a lot older than you might think by now, and was released in the Fall of 2009, when you look at the specs, it’s incredible to think that in just 4 years smartphones have evolved so much. With its 3.7-inch 854 x 480 display, a single-core processor around 500 Mhz and 256MB of RAM, it’s certainly not the fastest smartphone on eBay. Nowadays, we have smartphones with quad-core CPUs of clock speeds soaring past 2Ghz and 2GB of RAM is commonplace.

For just $40 you can get your hands on a piece of Android history and probably take a trip down memory lane while you’re there. Is $40 too much to pay for a smartphone that is well beyond its prime? Only you and your wallet can decide that but, it could be a little bit of fun. Especially if you’re looking for something to display on your desk or just a conversation piece. Verizon had a real hit on their hands with the OG Droid and they’ve continued that trend with the Droid RAZR line and the Incredible line as well. Now the Droid name adorns lots of devices such as the DNA from HTC and we’re sure that we’ll see more from the Droid brand in the future.

You can take a look at the listing here and let us know if you’re thinking of picking one of these up.
