The HTC One has sold quite well. Mind you, it hasn’t sold as well as the Galaxy S4, but that’s expected since Samsung has a ton of marketing money to sell their flagship. The HTC One has done much better for the Taiwanese manufacturer than their previous devices. The HTC One is a best-seller for 2013 and HTC deserves it. The revenues slipped at the end of Q2 and Australia’s analyst firm Macquarie Securities expects things to get even worse in Q3 for HTC.
This firm is estimating that HTC sold around 3-3.5 million HTC One’s in Q2, with 1.5 million selling in May, and 1 million in June. The analysts are predicting that Q3 (July-September) will see a big drop, but about 40% to about 600,000-700,000 units per month.
This sounds bad for HTC, especially since the One made up an estimated 40% of their total units that the manufacturer shipped and 60% of their revenues. Which translates to about a 15-20% drop in sales overall in Q3. While Wall Street analysts are predicting a flat growth quarter on quarter.
HTC has already announced the HTC Butterfly S, which has not been announced for the US quite yet. HTC also announced the One Mini, which is a 4.3-inch version of the One. We aren’t sure if it’s coming to the US or not, but it should do fairly well in the markets that it does sell in. But the major question is if the launch of the HTC One Mini and the Butterfly S will make up for the drop in the HTC One.
I’m still hoping HTC will make a bit of a comeback. As much as I love Samsung’s devices, I’d love to see HTC, Motorola, LG, or Sony compete with Samsung.
