It's Stats Time Folks; Samsung Users Now Use the Web More than iOS Users

I hope you’re all ready for some statistics, as we’ve got some more in the epic line-up that is Apple vs Samsung. This time around though, it’s a pretty weird metric, it’s not sales or funky customer approval ratings, it’s how much mobile Web traffic both OEMs account for. StatCounter have just published their most recent findings on web traffic, including how much of it comes from who’s devices, such as Apple, Nokia, Samsung et al. You might remember that at this year’s WWDC speech, Tim Cook had to use the questionable metric of Apple users using more data than Android users. Well, even that’s working against them now.

StatCounter has found that Samsung users have now narrowly edged out iOS users in terms of mobile web traffic. Don’t get too excited though, as it’s tipped in Samsung’s favor by a very small amount indeed. Samsung now has 25.47% of mobile web traffic, while Apple now has 25.09%. So, while that’s not the crushing defeat some of you were hoping for, it’s interesting to see how soon things can change.

The data was gathered over a period of a year, from last July to last month and the one surprise is to see how much traffic Nokia are still commanding. Back in 2012, Nokia were leading this metric but, Apple overtook them in February, it’s interesting to see how well they’ve held their place. While this is certainly a strange metric to measure by, it still tells us that Samsung have a whole lot of devices out there, and that they continue to dominate the market. After all, the mobile web is perhaps the most popular activity on smartphones and to see Samsung’s users take such a sizable share is no surprise.

Statistics are hardly exciting or fun to look at but, they do give us an insight into what’s happening at the moment, and just like with other statistics, this one shows how powerful Samsung have become in such a short time.
