More Images of Upcoming Sony "Honami" Leak Out; 20 MP Camera and "G" Lens Confirmed

We’ve seen quite a bit of Sony’s upcoming smartphone already and along with the Moto X, it’s one of the poorest kept secrets of 2013. Then again, with the leak culture what it is, somebody is always going to find a way. Recently, we got a look at the internals of the Honami thanks to a listing on GFXBench and now, we’re getting some more leaked images of the device, thanks to Techkiddy. When a device looks much like its predecessor, the Xperia Z, with a minimal design, there’s really not too much we can gleam from leaked images of the device’s hardware. However, this time around there is something we can clearly see. Next to the camera lens on the device is the letter “G”, which would mean very little on its own but, considering Sony use “G lenses” in their high-end point-and-shoot cameras it could be a hint that Sony is aiming at great camera performance here.

Something else that we can see from these leaks is that the rumored resolution of the camera is confirmed as 20MP, that’s more than the Galaxy S4 and it’s certainly a lot more than HTC’s “UltraPixel”. However, as we discovered when reviewing the Xperia Z more megapixels don’t make for a better camera. In fact, it can often be detrimental to the camera’s performance, especially if the sensor is on the smaller side of things. Besides, while 20MP sounds great, how often are you going to be printing something you took with your smartphone at such large sizes? Very rarely, I would image.

As for specs, well as the GFXBench listing reveals, the device is packing a quad-core Snapdragon 800 that looks to have a clock-speed of around 2 Ghz, 2GB of RAM and the same 1080p resolution that debuted in the Xperia Z. There’s no word yet on whether or not the Honami is going ot be using the same Triluminous display tech that debuted with the Xperia Z Ultra or not, but we’d like to think so.
