Yesterday, the Nexus 4 disappeared from one of the larger retailers in the UK. That’s Carphone Warehouse. The Nexus 4 has been completely removed from the Carphone Warehouse website and doesn’t even show an “out of stock” page. It basically directs you to a 404 page, “Oops, sorry, we can’t find the page you asked for”.
The Nexus 4 is getting closer and closer to the end of it’s life. It’s been available for about 8 months now. Which for a smartphone, that’s a long time. The Nexus 4 went on sale on November 15th of 2012, and many of you probably remember all the headaches of those who tried to order one on launch day. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Just yesterday, the white Nexus 4 disappeared from Google Play as well. Now Carphone Warehouse has taken down the Nexus 4. But luckily, Carphone Warehouse isn’t the only place to purchase the Nexus 4 over in the UK. So if you’re still looking to pick one up, you still have a few choices. In fact, the Google Play Store should still have it in stock.
What does this mean for the Nexus 4? Well we really have no idea. It’s a little too early for Carphone Warehouse and other retailers to be clearing out stock of the Nexus 4 in preparation for the fifth generation Nexus phone. But who knows, maybe Google is going to announce the Nexus 5 sooner than they have in the past? Usually the Nexus comes out in the fall. But I wouldn’t be opposed to it being announced and launched in late summer. But it might have to compete with the Moto X, which wouldn’t be fair to the Nexus program or Motorola.
Anyways, we don’t know exactly why the Nexus 4 isn’t showing up at Carphone Warehouse at all anymore. But we’ll continue to dig and see what we can come up with. Hopefully it’s some good news out there somewhere. How many of you are anxiously awaiting the next generation Nexus from Google and whoever they partner with this time around?
