Home automation is something that Google has tried with Android, but they haven’t really succeeded. A few years ago, at Google I/O they showed off all kinds of home automation things powered by Android. But that really didn’t take off. Now Revolv has a video out (at the bottom of this post) that shows how home automation could work with Google Glass. You know the “next big thing”, sorry Samsung.
Right now Glass isn’t turning into the next iPad or even smartphone, but Google does know that there is plenty of potential for connected eyewear to help bring in a new era of wearable computing. Instead of taking the smartwatch approach like everyone else. Google also knows that without a large app ecosystem, Glass will be dead in the water. Which is a major reason why Glass is available now to developers, and we’re seeing lots of apps coming out for the device. Including some that Google doesn’t want on Glass.
Back to the home automation thing. Revolv has released a demo video that shows some of the possibilities when Glass is integrated into a home automation system. The video shows a Revolv developer showing us how easy it is to control lights, a door lock and even a Sonos music system with Google Glass. It’s really cool, and makes me excited to get Google Glass, which is slated to be available to the general public late 2013 or early 2014. Hopefully they do come down on the price. Which we’ve been told will happen, we just don’t know what the price will be for us, non-developers.
So checkout the cool video down below. Let us know what you think about this home automation thing with Glass in the comments below. I think it’s pretty amazing, but then I am a tech geek. So anything with tech is going to keep me happy.
