Rovio Announce Angry Birds Star Wars II: Revenge of the Franchise Coming September 19th

As you’ve probably guessed, that’s not the title that Rovio is going with for their new game – I’m just having some fun with you. Nevertheless, there is a new Angry Birds Star Wars game coming to smartphones and tablets everywhere, and unsurprisingly, this game is to feature the prequel characters and settings of Star Wars. Regardless of how you feel about the prequels – I quite like them, myself – the new game is going to bring with it an even larger selection of characters than the first game, as well as some special features, too.

Come September 19th, when the game is released, you’ll be able to get your hands on over 30 characters from the films and even choose whether you’re siding with the light or dark side. Or, as Rovio is calling it, “the Pork Side”. This time around, Rovio are partnering with Hasbro to bring a Skylanders sort of feel to the title. The “Telepods” range of figures will be launching along with the game and they’ll use the camera on your smartphone or tablet to bring those characters into the game. So, let’s say you have a General Grievous figure there, you can bring him into the game and fling him at pigs, or maybe it’ll be flinging him at birds? Who knows.

Rovio are teasing as well, that “the Emperor is recruiting”, and that they’ll be more info on that shortly. We assume that Rovio is going to be running some sort of promotion across Social Media running up to the launch of the game. They’re might even be some free Telepods given away as well?

A second Angry Birds Star Wars game is pretty unsurprising, considering the amount of attention it garnered, and while the introduction of figures is interesting, it’s hardly surprising, either. Since Skylanders, it seems that everyone is looking to get in on the merchandise tie-in game. Even Disney has incorporated it, with their Disney Infinity game, which is where this decision probably came from.

You can take a look at the fun little trailer below, and head on over to Rovio’s website more info.
