That’s a serious looking camera above, right? There’s no denying the Galaxy NX looks the part, and the internals of the device certainly back it up as well but, how much would you expect something like this to cost? Well, if you guessed in the thousands, then you win. The device has gone up for sale in the UK – which means those Brits can buy it right now – for the whopping price of £1,299. That’s a lot. In US Dollars that comes out at around $2,000. Oh, did I forget to mention you get an 18 – 55mm kit lens? Well, you do so, that’s nice of them we suppose.
All joking aside, the price tag here is pretty steep but, the Galaxy NX is one hell of a camera, regardless of the Android OS packed in there. At the heart of it all is a 20 Megapixel APS-C sized sensor, which you’ll note is at the heart of all those dSLRs. Also, there’s an included viewfinder, which is something of a rarity on mirrorless cameras like this. Other headlining features are the 1/6000 sec shutter speed, the 8.6 fps burst rate, 16GB of Storage, WiFi, 3g and 4G LTE radios and what’s pretty much a Galaxy smartphone grafted onto the back.
On the Android side of things, you’ve got a 4.8-inch HD display, a quad-core 1.6 Ghz CPU and 2GB of RAM. That’s more than enough for something like this and should be able to run all the fancy filters you want onto those 20 Megapixel images you’ll be snapping away with this guy. While the idea of having to use Samsung’s own Android interface with the touchscreen might turn some photographers off, it’s not all bad. Samsung has tried their very best to make sure they deliver a quality experience and offer all the controls and scene modes you could want.
Is the Galaxy NX expensive? Yes, it is. Is it worth it? Well, that’s down to you but, Samsung often charge a premium for their products, and when something is as unique as this one, who can blame them. The Galaxy NX is certainly packed full of features, and it’s one of the best mirrorless cameras on the market, even without all of that Android power behind it. Whether or not you want to spend that much on a camera is up to you. There’s still no word on availability or official pricing in the US just yet, but we’re sure it’s not too far behind.
