As a UK resident myself, it’s a little irksome for me to be writing this but, there you go. The new Nexus 7 is now up for pre-order in the UK but, the release date is slated as 13th of September, that’s a longer wait than next Tuesday is for those in the US. Pricing has also been confirmed as well, the new Nexus 7 is going to cost £199.99 with 16GB of storage and £239.99 for the 32GB model. There’s no word on a 4G LTE version, let alone a 3G version of the device, so the wait for that model could be even longer.
The device is up for pre-order from both PC World and Currys, who may as well be the same company, for the same prices above and they unfortunately list the far-away wait of September 13th.
Update: eBuyer now have the new Nexus 7 up for pre-order, and are displaying the date of August 29th on their listing, which is still a wait but, not too long of a wait. I’ll be keeping my eye on eBuyer these next couple days.
We’re not sure why it’s going to take so long for the device to hit UK shelves, especially when you consider the UK is not a new market for Google. During the bonanza breakfast yesterday, Google simply said that the new Nexus 7 would be available in Europe in the “coming weeks”. It’s not just the UK that will have to wait then, as the following countries are slated to get the device: Germany, South Korea, Japan, Spain, Canada, France and Australia.
There’s a slim chance that this window will shorten, and Google will go ahead and start selling the device in the Play Store before their retail partners but, judging by the way they’re handling things in the States, that’s pretty unlikely. Hopefully, though the UK will be able to get their hands on the device before the end of September, as that seems like a long wait for a territory that Google has experience in, the Play Store has been selling devices there for some time now.
