Verizon usually creates a special edition of some of the devices they carry for their employees, we’ve seen it lately in the form of the Droid RAZR MAXX and RAZR MAXX HD and with the launch of the new Droid line, it’s expected for at least one of them to have a special employee version.
We already saw the device leaked earlier, it’s a Droid Ultra with a red racing stripe on top of a black background, all made of Kevlar of course, we already saw different threads of Kevlar in multiple colors, so Motorola might be preparing more versions in more colors. The device also sports a red Motorola logo and camera module as well as colored power button and volume rockers.
The special Droid Ultra is not free of course, employees have to buy it at the very discounted price of $99 with a two-year contract, and aside from the phone, employees will get a free case and the SOL Republic Jax earbuds presented yesterday. The device is set to be shipped along the rest of the Droids on the 20th of next month.
Don’t expect to walk into a Verizon store and pick one up, this is for employees only, but you might want to check Craiglist, eBay and similar sites for this Droid Ultra to show up as it usually ends up there. Or you might just have a friend or family member working for Verizon that could pick it up for you.
The Droid Ultra is the thinnest 4G LTE device in the market with a 5 inch 720p screen, a 10 megapixel ClearPixel camera and a Motorola X8 processor. The rest of the new Droid family is completed with the Droid Mini, a 4.3 inch 720p device and the Droid MAXX, which is the same as the Ultra but with a monster battery of 3500mAh giving you 48 hours of talk time. If I were a Verizon employee I would pick it up without a second thought, although the MAXX would have been my first choice. How about you? Are you planning on finding one of these special Droid Ultras for you?
