Droid MAXX and ULTRA Getting Update on First Boot
The Droid MAXX and ULTRA haven’t been on sale for very long and yet they’ve already seen their first update. A very minor update should be ready and waiting for you the first time you turn on the new device. If not, just head on over to settings to pull down the update. This is a very, very small update and all it does is throw in some improvements for Group MMS messaging, ISIS wallet and the usual. A very minor update, indeed.
ASUS Padfone 2 Gets Large Update to Boost Performance and Fix Bugs
The Padfone 2 might not have received the success that ASUS was looking for but they’re still going to support the device as much as they do any other device. With the update to V10.4.17.7, there’s a raft of performance boosts and bug fixes. Coming in at 766MB it’s not surprising that the update is available to download from ASUS’ website. Make sure to download the right version for your region. Here’s the changelog for this latest update for the Padfone 2:
- Applied the Android security patch provided by Google
- Improved the camera’s firmware and optimized the AWB (automatic white balance) function
- Improved the input keyboard’s interface and upgraded the vocabulary database
- Improved the performance and stability of the applications
- New BuddyBuzz and FloatingApp version
- Fixed bugs from users’ feedback
Bugfix Update Heading to Xperia S, Xperia SL and Xperia Acro S
The Xperia S, along with the models above have been treated to another software update. Granted, this still leaves things at Android 4.1 but, it brings with it a whole host of bug fixes and general improvements. HTC One X and One X+ Get Treated to Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5 in the UK
The update that started in the Far East has started to roll out in the UK now. The update comes in at 406MB and brings with it Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5. There’s a lot of tweaks involved as well but, essentially this brings the One X and the X+ closer to HTC One in terms of software. For the One X, you’re looking at an update to version number 4.18.401.2 and version number 2.18.401.2 for the One X+. Depending on which network you’re on, you might have to wait longer than some others.
Sony’s Xperia Z Ultra Gets Big Update
The Xperia Z Ultra hasn’t been on sale for long and yet it’s already getting its first sizable update. The update brings the Z Ultra up to version 14.1.B.1.510 and weighs in at around 770MB, as such the use of Sony’s PC software is required. The update brings with it support for the X-Reality engine which adjusts how pictures and videos look on the display. Alongside some tweaks to the UI, including the stock Email app and more. There’s some attention given to the camera software as well, bringing improved Auto response. Overall, this is a sizable update for the Z Ultra, which mostly makes up for certain features of the device being missing when the device launched not too long ago.
Xperia Tablet Z WiFi-Only Model Gets Android 4.2.2
The latest and greatest tablet from Sony has just gotten an update to Android 4.2.2 and some changes. Much like the update that rolled out to the LTE versions of the device, the WiFi-only versions are getting their turn. The update changes the build number to 10.3.1.C.0.136 and changes the UI to something more Nexus like. Here’s the changelog straight from Sony themselves.

Nvidia Shield Gets Yet Another Update; Brings Better Support for PC Games
The Shield has just gotten another update, this time around it brings support for many more PC Games. Still coming in at 400MB or so, this is a sizable update. Update 59 adds support for FIFA 13, Call of Jaurez: Gunslinger, Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition and many other games, bringing the total up to 31 PC Games. As well as that there is support for Apps to SD as well but, as usual you can only send the APK to the SD card, app data will remain on the internal storage.
