Earlier this year, Google introduced us to their note-taking app, Google Keep. Now it’s been a good while since it was last updated. Leading us to believe that Keep might be going the way of Google Reader. Well it doesn’t appear to be…at least not yet. Today, Google just released a new update for the app bringing in loads of new features. Currently, these are only on the Android app, but I’m sure some of these changes will be added to the web.
With the new update you can now set a reminder, and even location-based reminders, with your notes. They will be pushed through Google Now to your device. So if you want to take out the trash on Thursday nights, you can set a reminder to make sure you don’t forget to take out the trash. Or if you have a grocery list, you can set a reminder using a geofence to show you the grocery list the next time you’re at Walmart, Meijer or your local grocery store.
Additionally, Google has added a fancy new navigation drawer. This allows users to search through all of their notes, as well as switch between Google accounts for easily accessing notes on different emails. Keep will also be easier to add existing photos from your phone to a note. In the past, that was pretty painful to do. So with the new update it’ll be much easier.
The update isn’t yet available on Google Play. I get the feeling that when they hit “publish” on Google Play, the hit “publish” on their blog post. Which means it should be hitting the Google Play store in a few hours. Unless Google is using the new, dreaded, staged rollouts. If anyone gets the update, we’d appreciate you sending in the APK so we can add it to this article and share with the rest of our awesome readers.
How many of you are using Keep? What about Evernote or another note-taking app? Let us know what you think about the update in the comments down below.
