We’ve already kinda known about the existence of the LG G Pad for a while, we’ve even heard about the rumored processor. Today, LG has confirmed the upcoming tablet without showing it, pretty much like they did with the LG G2. The full name of the tablet is LG G Pad 8.3 and it was outed in the company’s YouTube channel with a video where supposedly regular people are being asked what would make a tablet just right for them. From those answers we can take a few hints on what the G Pad 8.3 will be. The video talked about thinness, connection to Smart TVs, easy to hold and not being too big which obviously means that the tablet will carry an 8.3 inch full HD display. The only thing that worries me is the tablet icon they used in the video, the shape and front camera location is way too similar to the iPad, hopefully LG is not getting into a legal mess with the tablet and it was just a random icon.
I don’t think anybody believes that they are real people answering real questions, but it’s still miles better than an abstract teaser or some weird Hollywood style video. This way it at least allows us to see what LG had in mind when creating the tablet. Whether or not they’ll create a good product, remains to be seen, but at least they have the right idea. I’ve been hearing more and more people talking about how 10 inches is too big (unless you’re watching a video) and 7 inches is a bit small (but perfect for carrying it around) so LG could hit the right spot in the middle.
LG probably had a home tablet in mind when coming up with the new G Pad, giving it a good size for watching videos but not too heavy and still easy to carry around but not too small. That and the Smart TV integration could potentially make the G Pad an amazing home addition, if done right, obviously.
Next week is going to be crazy with both Samsung and Sony having events and IFA 2013 starting on Thursday in Berlin, Germany. This is most likely the scenario LG will choose to reveal the G Pad 8.3 with all of its features. If the G2 is the reference, there’s going to be a lot of them.
