The LG G2 was announced this morning, and it has a very nice looking display. It’s a 1920×1080 resolution IPS display and it’s about 5.2-inches. LG compared their new display to the Full HD AMOLED displays that Samsung makes, and is on their Galaxy S4 (and probably coming to the Galaxy Note 3). LG says that the display now takes up about 75% of the front of the phone. That’s even less bezel than Motorola has on the Moto X, which they said about 70% of the front is the display.
The 5.2-inch full HD IPS display packs more subpixels than most other displays out there. As you can see in the image below, the full HD AMOLED display has just over 4 million subpixels, compared to the Full HD IPS display on the G2 which has over 6 million subpixels. That’s something that new phone buyers should think about instead of the pixel-per-inch ratio, at least that’s what LG is telling us. So we’ll have to take a good look at the display once we get the device in hand to check it out.
Now onto the features. The G2 comes with plenty of features, although it’s still not as many as Samsung has in the Galaxy S4. One of my favorite features in the G2 is the new KnockON feature. The power and volume buttons are on the back, just below the camera. LG has made this KnockOn feature which allows you to double tap the screen to turn the device on and off. Another one is Answer Me, which automatically answers the phone by raising it to the ear, while lowering the volume of the ringtone. Samsung already has something similar to this which debuted in the Galaxy S3. There’s also the Plug & Pop, which automatically recommends options that are most likely o be used with a headset, when a headset or USB cable is detected.
Some more features include text link which improves text management, allowing you to select text from a SMS and save it in a memo or calendar or for maps or the browser. Another is Guest Mode, which allows you to give customized access to the phone for other users, sounds a lot like the user profiles Android has on tablets. Slide Aside, is their multi-tasking feature, by swiping with three fingers, you can swipe between apps. Which is rather unique. Finally there’s Quick Remote. Which allows you to use your phone as a remote to operate things around the house.
There’s many great things about the LG G2, and I’m definitely excited to get my hands on one. How many of you have liked what you’ve seen so far?
