LG Sent the G2 Up to The Stratosphere; Shows off 13-megapixel Camera and OIS

LG are understandably very proud of their latest and greatest smartphone, the G2. So proud in fact, that they’re not shy about parading the device and making sure that everyone knows just how good it is. The G2 has a long spec sheet, as do most smartphones these days, but one of the crowning jewels is the 13MP camera that features OIS, or Optical Image Stabilisation. What this means is that it’ll be easy to get a clear shot thanks to the built-in compensation in the G2. While it might not have magical powers that help it to see in the dark, like other smartphones claim, the G2 has a great shooter round back that’s nestled along with the buttons.

How good? Well, it’s good to enough to take some pretty stunning shots up there in the sky, on the very edge of the planet, that’s for sure. LG had to think of something to show off the camera on the device, and what better way to do that than to send it off up into the stratosphere? That’s just what LG did and they had the device capture some stunning footage of the sky and the Earth right from the smartphone itself. The Korean company had the device fly off into the sky using a balloon, with some protection for the G2 of course, this isn’t something you should try yourself. For a smartphone camera, the footage is really quite good. Take a look at LG’s video below to take a look for yourself:

As you can see, the footage here is really quite nice and it just goes to show you that smartphone cameras, when done right, can still be very capable. The LG G2 is much more than just its camera however, as there’s also a Snapdragon 800, 2GB of RAM and a sizable 5.2-inch Full HD display in there as well.

The G2 is set to be launching this Fall, coming to most major carriers. How many of you are planning to pick up the G2? Let us know in the comments below.
