When LG first launched the Optimus Vu, it wasn’t what we’d call an “instant purchase”. In fact, many of us looked at the Optimus Vu and basically wondered what in the world LG was thinking. Of course, the Optimus Vu line quickly became an Asian-only device after a quick stint on Verizon here in the States. For those in Asia, the 4:3 aspect ratio is probably a better way of writing script when holding the device in portrait than a tall and thin device at 16:9 is. Needless to say, LG are like Samsung, in that they won’t back down from a device. Even if it was poorly received.
So, that gave birth to the Optimus Vu II and now, we’re hearing rumors of the Vu III. Or at least, we’re assuming that they’re going to be dropping the Optimus moniker as they did with the recent launch of the G2. We’ve finally got some info on some specs of the device, thanks to Asiae.co.kr. The 4:3 aspect ratio that makes the Vu, the Vu is returning and this time the display size is rumored to be 5.2-inches with a resolution of 1280 x 960. As for internals, the word is that this is going to be packing the Snapdragon 800 from Qualcomm and support LTE-Advanced as well.
Apparently, LG is looking to announce the Vu III come September 4th at IFA in Berlin. Of course, this would clash with the Galaxy Note III, with the Vu and the Note competing in the same space, it’s not surprising. However, considering the original Vu was very poorly received in the States, we’re not holding our breath for this device to leave South Korea. So, announcing the device at an International show doesn’t make a lot of sense to us. Regardless, we’re sure LG will try their best with the Vu III, and they should have another hit on their hands for the Asian market.
What about you guys? Is the 4:3 ratio just no good for us in the West? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
