Just in the time it took me to write this article, over 500 new “backers” have pledged support for Pressy, and they have 45 more days to collect money on Kickstarter Pressy’s developer, Nimrod Back, said they exceeded their goal of $40,000 in less than 24 hours. After viewing the video, I can see why so many jumped on board with this simple, yet elegant and useful device. Pressy allows you to perform tasks with your Android smartphone at a click, or series of clicks, of a button, much like Morse code, using a number of short or long clicks to perform a function.
For instance, to turn your cellphone into a flashlight, you have to wake up the screen, unlock it, swipe the screens until you find the app, launch the app, and finally the light comes on. A process that takes several seconds while you maintain eye contact with your screen. With Pressy, you can program the flashlight to come on in two short clicks, never having to look at your phone…pretty cool. Pressy comes with three default actions so you can start using Pressy out-of-the-box:
- One short Click to toggle your flashlight
- One long Click to toggle your phone in and out of silent mode
- Double Click to snap a photo
Below is a list of actions you can do with Pressy, but others can be added by third party developers:
Setup is a breeze – you simply plug the Pressy device into your headphone jack, download the app, and you are ready to Pressy. The Pressy button only adds 0.7mm to the height of your phone. Need to use your headphone jack, no problem, just remove the Pressy and insert the plug from your headphones. Still want to use Pressy’s features, just click on your headphone button and it will still work. Pressy even offers an easy way to store your precious new toy in a convenient keychain:
Take a look at the funny, yet informative video below and check it out for yourself – you may want to go to their Kickstarter Page and make a pledge. For only $20 you get a basic black Pressy and Keychain, and for a few bucks more you can get a colored Pressy; they come in red, white, and blue. According to the developer, they should be able to manufacturer the Pressy in a four-month period. Looks like an innovated product that could make our lives easier – do you think you could use a Pressy in your life.
