It is Labor Day weekend, at least here in the US. So we weren’t expecting a whole lot of news. But our buddy @evleaks has just given us some great news for those that were thinking about buying the Moto X. You’re going to want to hold off a bit before you buy one. Evleaks is telling us that the Moto X is going to be selling for about $99 on contract come Q4 of this year. That’s $100 cheaper than it is currently. And it’s also a bit better priced when you look at the specs, even though the Moto X isn’t about specs, but about the experience.
The $100 price drop come Q4 sounds accurate, since Rogers has dropped the price by $20 two separate times already. It launched at $189 on contract and it’s now $149 on contract. So I’m inclined to believe that it’ll drop to $99 soon. The next part of the rumor is that there will be four wood grain backs available in Q4 as well. Those will be an additional $50. Which we reported on already earlier this week. So there’s more fuel to that fire. Honestly, I’m not surprised that the wood backs are going to cost more. Almost seems like common sense, since I’m sure wood costs more than plastic.
The Moto X for $99 on contract sure seems a lot better than $199. But what’s the full price going to be? Hopefully we’ll see a drop in that price as well. Maybe the price drop will happen when the device hits Google Play? I don’t expect the Moto X to be nearly $600 on Google Play when you have the HTC One Google Play Edition for $600 and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition for $650. It’ll be tough to talk people into the Moto X, especially those that look at the specs and nothing else.
Would you purchase a Moto X if it were $99 on contract from your carrier? Or is that still a bit steep? Considering the HTC One Mini is $99 on-contract, I think the Moto X would do well at that price point.
