Review: Griffin WoodTones Over-The-Ear Headphones

We’ve seen some rather interesting headphones lately. Once I saw these in my inbox, I knew I had to try them out. They are part of the WoodTones collection from Griffin technology. Griffin also has some earbuds that are part of the WoodTones collection. You can also choose the material for your headphones. The options include Beech, Walnut, and Sapele. For the most part these are just normal headphones, but parts of them are made out of wood. Even the tips of the cord that plugs into your device and the headphones. I have to say it looks quite nice.

These headphones are probably some of the most comfortable headphones I’ve used in quite a long time. The headband is also fairly large, which is great if your wearing a hat with these headphones on. They are pretty lightweight, although I did notice that after wearing them for hours on end, that they did make my ears fairly warm. They also have a built in mic, which has controls for both iPhone and Android. For Android it works for answering/hanging up calls, skipping to the next track or going back. But there’s no volume control on the headphones themselves, which is rather disappointing. These are compatible with just about any device, but the controls are only compatible with Android and iOS devices, unfortunately. It works great with the Nexus 7 as well, which means it works on tablets.

As far as the music quality goes, it’s really great. I’ve used them on my laptop, Nexus 4 and Nexus 7. My laptop has Beats Audio inside which makes them sound better than on my phone and tablet. The headphones can get pretty loud as well, which is great, as some movies and TV shows are rather quiet and tough to hear. The bass frequencies are pretty good on these headphones as well. I’d say they are right up there with headphones from Beats Audio and Bose (my personal favorite).

The Griffin WoodTones are available from their website now starting at $99.99 for the headphones and $29.99 for the earbuds. Which I believe are pretty low prices, and definitely worth every penny.
