Late last year, Wireless charging became pretty popular. It’s been available on some Nokia Lumia devices like the Nokia Lumia 1020. It’s also available on the HTC Droid DNA/Butterfly, Nexus 4, and the new Nexus 7. Among some other devices. So naturally, wireless chargers have become pretty popular. I’ve already reviewed the Tylt Vu, which I was pretty impressed with. Now we’re looking at the Qi Wireless charger which is basically just a plate to set your device on to charge.
The Qi Wireless Charger has a pretty sleek, ultra slim design. It’s a bit bigger than the Tylt Vu, but it does fit tablets a bit better. Unfortunately you can’t charge two devices at a time. Or at least you can’t charge the Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 together, since there’s not enough room. You could probably charge two phones though, just not a phone and a tablet together.
The charger has a blue light that lights up when it’s actually charging your device. Sometimes its a bit finicky about actually charging your device, and you need to have it in the right spot. The charger also prevents from over-charging. So that once your device is fully charged, it’ll stop charging so that your device isn’t overcharged.
I’ve used it on both the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 4 and it’s worked great with both of them. It weighs about 150g, which is pretty light. By comparison, it’s much lighter than the Tylt Vu. The dimensions of the wireless charger are 110 x 155 x 20mm which is kinda big, so it takes up more desk space than some others out there. Right now the Qi Universal Wireless Charging Plate runs for about £29.99 from Mobile Fun which translates to about $47. It works with any device that uses Qi wireless charging. Which includes the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note 2 with the wireless charging back cover. Which is a separate purchase.
