Do you remember the ATIV Q? We’ll forgive you if you haven’t because Samsung has been scant on details ever since the device launched. It was once hailed as a great device from Samsung but, since then it seems to disappeared off of the map. It seems that there could be a good reason for that and there’s a chance that the ATIV Q might not ever make its way to market. Gforgames is reporting that the device might not ever see the light of day due to a severe snafu concerning patents.
This certainly isn’t the first time that patents have gotten the better of Samsung but, never have we heard of a device not launching because of it. According to Korean Press, there’s an issue with the ATIV Q and how it runs both Android and Windows 8 at the same time. Apparently, this is causing a headache for Sammy’s legal department and there’s a chance that the device might not ever launch, because of it.
For many, the ATIV Q presented the perfect machine. It had the best specs on the market, with a Haswell CPU, a 13.3-inch display at a mind-boggling 3200—1800 resolution and a near full-sized keyboard. Not just that but, it offered the best of both worlds when it comes to Android and Windows 8.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Samsung is trying to overcome the issue but, so far it’s still unresolved. Not just that but, things aren’t looking good for the Korean giant and it’s said that pre-orders of the device through retailers have now been cancelled. Hopefully, Samsung can come to an agreement with whomever it is that’s holding the dispute. Patents are a necessary evil as they protect people’s hard work and inventions but, it’s sad to see that patents could be the very reason that such an innovative product from Samsung might not ever reach consumer’s hands.
