It’s funny how trends come and go in the smartphone world and one of the latest trends is for manufacturers to build a flagship smartphone with a big screen to satisfy their competitive need to outdo one another. Then they will turn around and make a smaller version for users that might enjoy a smaller phone, but those that purchase a “mini” version are cheated on specifications of their larger siblings. According to a post in the forums, it looks like Sony is the latest to promote this trend.
Samsung kickstared this trend in 2013 with its Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini…a smaller version of its popular Galaxy S4, but it was in form only. A dead ringer in looks, simply an S4 shrunk down, however, the specs were nothing like the flagship version. Lower display resolution, pixel density, quad-core vs. dual core processor, and 13MP vs. 8MP Camera – 2GB of RAM is about the only technical spec they share.
HTC joined the cause with its HTC One’s success by releasing an HTC One Mini, again a beautifully shrunken down HTC One, but, like the S4 Mini, other than keeping the 4MP UltraPixel Camera, a lot of the specs are reduced.
The Motorola Droid Mini’s story is a little different in that while there are larger siblings, the Droid Ultra and Droid MAXX, the Droid Mini is not really a true “mini” version of either one. The looks and names are similar and most of the specifications, even the display, 720 x 1280 resolution, bumping the Mini up to 342ppi. This is the truest mini there is, only because Motorola choose to use only a 720p Super AMOLED display on its larger versions rather than a Full HD display, like Samsung and HTC.
The New Sony Honami Mini will be a true mini, other than the drop in display resolution from 1080p to 720p. It will keep the Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.2GHz, 2GB of RAM, and even the 20.7MP Camera should be onboard.
The source of this information is said to come from a reliable source so we can only wait and see if Sony will carry these specs of its Honami over to its Mini version, code-named, Ray 3. Let us know if you would be interested in obtaining a Sony Honami Mini with these specifications.
