Sony's IFA Conference Confirmed for September 4th; The Same Day as Samsung's

In an unsurprising move, Sony’s press conference has been confirmed for September 4th – the same day as Samsung’s event. As Android Central is reporting, Sony’s event is taking place just hours before Samsung’s. Leaving little room for the Internet to recover, we imagine. While IFA is a general consumer electronics show, it looks like smartphones might be the headlining guests this year. With Samsung more than likely to unveil the Galaxy Note III at the event, and Sony looking to announce i1 “Honami”, it looks like these guys are going to bump heads a little bit.

We could see more from Sony than just a new smartphone though, as recent leaks have suggested that Sony has been working on “external cameras” for smartphones. The pair of lens cameras feature all of the innards of a digital camera and rely on the smartphone to be the brains. It’s an interesting concept and IFA would be as good a time as any to announce them.

While it doesn’t look like there’s anything on the cards where a tablet is concerned, Sony could have a surprise or two up their sleeve. No matter what it is that they announce though, we’re sure it’ll be good and with Samsung announcing so close to them, we’re sure they’ll want to put on a show to remember.

The main attraction is obviously going to be Sony’s upcoming “Honami” smartphone which has leaked out a number of times in the last few months. With the device shaping up to be a direct follow-up to the Xperia Z, it’s going to be going up against the HTC One and the Galaxy S4. Rather than the Note III, as that seems more suited to the Xperia Z Ultra. So far, rumors are pointing to an updated Xperia Z with a Snapdragon 800 CPU, a 20 MP camera and hopefully the TriLuminous Display technology that debuted with the Xperia Z Ultra.

We’ll have all the news from next month’s event, so keep it lock to Android Headlines.
