T-Mobile has become the darling of the Wireless Industry these past months, with AT&T and Verizon cast out as evil corporate monsters. Of course, most of this has been spun by the incredibly “unique” CEO of T-Mobile, the one, the only: John Legere. While he’s better known across the Internet for making the best use of Twitter in recent years and generally giving Verizon, AT&T et al headaches he is actually good at his job. Or at least, that’s what the UNcarrier’s latest figures are showing. While T-Mobile isn’t completely out of the dark, they’ve made some incredible progress. In terms of cold hard cash, they experienced a 20 Percent jump in revenue from last year, from $4.4 Billion to $6.3 Billion. This did still come an operating loss of $16 Million but, it’s good progress nonetheless.
The coolest carrier on the block has also seen a spike in customers as well, gaining 1.1 Million new customer in Q2 of this year alone. These new customers will be pleased to hear that T-Mobile’s LTE network is off to a flying start. According to the magenta network, they now have 4G LTE in 116 Metro areas and there’s seems to be no slowing them down.
All of this progress has been helped by their Jump Plan and their new Simple Choice family plans, as Engadget is reporting. As for phones, the iPhone still accounted for 29 Percent of their handset sales, with devices like the Galaxy S4 selling well, too. Overall, the company sold 4.3 Million smartphones, making up for 86 Percent of phone sales. Up from 71 Percent the year before.
Progress is nice to see, and the merger with MetroPCS has helped a lot, with the UNcarrier now covering 157 Million people. With an energetic marketing campaign that still makes good on its promises, we could see more of this T-Mobile. The T-Mobile that makes money and turns a profit. Many of you have been singing their praises recently, and we’d love to hear from you if you’ve switched to T-Mobile. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
