Not like AT&T didn’t already have enough exclusives, it looks like they are about to get one more. Details are coming out from a new FCC filing which is pointing towards the new Alcatel Viper landing on AT&T soon. Now whether it’ll be a regular postpaid device or available on their pre-paid plans remains to be seen. There’s also no official word from AT&T about them getting the Viper. But the FCC filing does tell us that it will support AT&T’s network.
Details from the filing show the device as having a 4.6-inch display (probably qHD or 720p) along with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor inside. There’s nothing about which version of Android it’ll be running, but I’d expect Android 4.1 or 4.2. Aside from it being named the Viper, the filing also points toward the name being the One Touch 7030Y. So far neither Alcatel nor AT&T has confirmed the device or said anything about it. So we’ll have to await the official announcement.
Alcatel has already announced some other devices recently, including the One Touch Idol S and the One Touch Idol Mini. Now there’s the Alcatel Viper or One Touch heading to AT&T, which if it does actually make it there, would be the first Alcatel smartphone in the US (at least that I know of) that is available on a carrier and not just unlocked like their previous devices.
I would expect the Viper to be in line with the Galaxy Mega 6.3 and the HTC One Mini on AT&T, in terms of specs. Both of those are running on Snapdragon 400’s like the Alcatel Viper is said to be running on. So it would make sense that this is a mid-range device, right? It’s also in that sweet spot. Not too small, and not overly large. You don’t really see many 4.6-inch devices. The only one I can think of was the Galaxy Nexus at 4.65-inches back in 2011.
How many of you would pick up the Alcatel Viper from AT&T if it were the right price? Let us know in the comments below.
