This evening Amazon, you know the company that we buy just about everything from online, has just announced the new Kindle Fire HDX. Which is an amazing device. It’s actually two tablets. There’s a 7-inch and a 8.9-inch version. Just like the Kindle Fire HD from last year. Both of them are pretty much a black slab with a powerful processor and a great looking display. But that’s basically what we’ve come to expect from Amazon these days.
So you remember those weird looking leaks we saw a few weeks ago? Well they were right. As you can see in The Verge’s image above. The new Kindle Fire HDX is also sporting a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, which does mean that its going to be great on battery life, not to mention it’ll be blazing fast. They’ve also doubled up on the memory, giving it 2GB of RAM now. The Adreno 330 GPU also gives the HDX four times the graphics power as the Kindle Fire HD. Amazon is promising 11 hours of battery life on the Kindle Fire HDX and 17 hours if you’re just simply reading on the device.
Now here is where things get a little different. The 7-inch model is sporting a 1920×1200 resolution display, while the 8.9-inch has a 2560×1600 resolution display. Making it a crazy good looking display. Amazon is looking to brag about not only the quality of the displays in the Kindle Fire HDX, but also the technology they used to improve the display, and make the viewer’s experience even better than ever.
The Kindle Fire HDX is still running a forked version of Android. This time it’s running Android 4.2. Amazon is also pushing out a new version of Fire OS, it’s version 3.0 codenamed “Mojito” which brings a lot of the Amazon-specific features and things any tablet user would need to the Kindle Fire HDX.
As far as pricing goes, these two are a little more expensive than what we’ve seen in the past from Amazon. But they are selling the 7-incher for $229 and the 8.9-incher for $379. Definitely not bad prices for these tablets. They will be available in LTE variants for $329 and $479 respectively, and will work with AT&T and Verizon (hopefully Verizon has certified the Kindle Fire HDX).
