Sony Xperia Z1 Receives its First Update
While it might be still pretty difficult to get your hands on one, the Xperia Z1 is getting its first firmware update. Bringing the build number to 14.1.G.1.531, up from the .518 version it was before, this small update doesn’t seem to be bringing too much. After all, this is probably a clean-up type of update as the device goes on general sale in some parts of the globe.
OUYA Update Adds Currency Support and Brings Better Game Discovery
The OUYA has been available for some time now and fresh updates just keep on coming. The 09/19 update should be on most people’s consoles right now and offers better game discovery. It also introduced currency for UK Pounds and Euros, which should be going live some time this week. Here’s the changelog from OUYA’s blog:

- Installed games are now moved to the back of their row in DISCOVER, so now it’s easier to find games you don’t already have.
- You also have the option to Bury (manually push a game to the back of a row) by pressing the right thumbstick (R3). DISCOVER is your playground…go nuts!
- The OUYA now informs you when a game has finished downloading and when it has finished installing. Because knowing is half the battle.
- Our intern has hidden an “Easter Eggs” menu somewhere on the OUYA… can you find it?
- Fixed an issue where sometimes a system update would cancel and not inform the user, so only a blank downloading bar would appear.
- Fixed an issue where high bandwidth could actually cause performance issues and crashes while navigating menus.
- Fixed an issue that could cause the OUYA to overheat in some cases.
- Fixed a handful of crashes that could occur after browsing DISCOVER for a long period of time.
- Added currency support for Pounds and Euros. This will be enabled NEXT WEEK. Existing accounts will continue to transact in US Dollars, while new accounts will transact in the currency appropriate for their region.
Also, they left a not on external storage support saying it’s coming in the near future:

Both Sprint and T-Mobile Moto Xs Receive Dramatic Camera Update
The Moto X on both Sprint and T-Mobile received an update that greatly improves the device’s camera this past week. For T-Mobile users, the build you’re looking for is “139.12.57” while Sprint users should be looking for build “139.14.1”. Both updates are very similar in that they essentially content the same improvements. Bringing the Moto X’s camera to life with more vibrancy and better color reproduction. Here’s what you should expect from the update:
Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Starts to Receive Android 4.2.2
The Galaxy Tab 3 series might be out on shelves but, that doesn’t mean Samsung has forgotten it’s older users. In fact, those in Australia are getting the Android 4.2.2. It’s only for the WiFi models right now but, the software version you’re looking for is “P5110XXDMH2” While the rollout is starting down under, this is a good indication that Samsung is getting ready to deliver the update in stages to WiFi-only models. Here’s the changelog:
- Android 4.2.2 upgrade
- New lock screen style: electronic gadgets
- Added display the battery meter in the status bar options
- New sleep mode switch
- Quick Settings panel: use two-finger gestures with 12 sliding open the Notifications panel fast setting

HiSense Sero 7 Pro Gets One More Maintenance Update
The budget tablet that surprised us all last year is still alive and kicking it would seem. With yet another small update coming from HiSense, it looks like the tablet hasn’t been abandoned just yet. This 1.7MB update brings the software version up to “P756.6.02.11.00”, which doesn’t appear to really do anything. It goes without saying then, that the Android version is still at Android 4.2.1 but, as HiSense have said before, we should see Android 4.3 for this little guy at some point.
HTC One Starts Getting Android 4.3
The HTC One launched with Android 4.1 and then got updated to Android 4.2 but, things move quickly in the Android world and Android 4.3 is the new hotness. HTC are looking to streamline their updates going forward and the HTC One is already starting to get Android 4.3. The Developer Edition of the device is getting Android 4.3 in software version 3.22.1540.1, coming in at 564MB. The update brings with it Android 4.3’s improvements as well as some improvements to Sense 5 customization. Meanwhile in Taiwan, general devices are getting a 512MB update which delivers much the same. Hopefully the American carriers won’t be too far behind with this one.
LG Lucid Receives Small Update
There’s something to be said of the LG Lucid, while it might be a budget device, it wasn’t actually that bad and for those not looking for an earth-shatteringly amazing smartphone, the Lucid is good enough. Now it’s getting a small update that included the above enhancements. As you can see, it’s mostly apps and some security fixes but, an update is an update after all.
