Just yesterday, the LG G2 launched on AT&T and Verizon (as well as T-Mobile). In fact, we even have one in house now. Which I’ll be putting through it’s paces over the next few days. Just that quick, the folks over at XDA have found an easy rooting method for the G2.
To root your G2, at least with this method, you are going to need to know some ADB commands and knowledge. Once you get ADB set up, and download the proper drivers, you’ll just need the one-click script that has been put together to root the G2. It’s pretty simple to get it going, which is great to hear. Especially since the G2 is probably going to be one of the more popular flagships this fall, along side the Galaxy Note 3.
Once you root your G2, you’ll want to back it up using Titanium or Hellium. Then install a custom recovery, then you’re all set to go for when custom ROMs start popping up for the G2. I’m sure there are some other root apps you’ll want to try. Personally for myself, I’d install Greenify. I’ve found that really helps out with battery life on devices. It really helped out my Nexus 4.
There is a full set of instructions over on XDA’s site. You’re going to want to be sure to read the full post before you attempt rooting the device. Remember that when you root it, you’re going to be voiding the warranty. So as long as you’re comfortable with voiding your warranty, you should be fine. It’s great to see root achieved this quickly for the G2. That means there is a developer community out there for this device, and we should see some great ROMs popping up soon. We might even see some later today. I’ll definitely be excited to see CyanogenMod or AOKP pop up for the G2. This hardware and stock Android will be like a match made in heaven!
