10-Astro Boy Dash
Everyone loves a good endless runner game. Almost everyone anyway. It’s simply because they’re easy to play and you can play them for 10 minutes or 2 hours. Astro Boy Dash delivers an endless runner experience that is certainly a crowd pleaser, all while allowing the gamer to play as the memorable robotic little boy from the popular Astro Boy anime from years ago. The game celebrates 50 years of Astro Boy animation. You heard me right, 50 years. Take control of Atom the robotic wonder and dash through the streets of the city, dodging obstacles (of course) and collecting coins to spend on robotic upgrades that will help you run further and rack up your score. Although you will need some in game coin to buy robotic upgrades(remember you can do this just by playing), you won’t need any real cash to get the game. It’s free.
9-Dropchord
I always love a good rhythm game. Perhaps its because I love the electronic music that a lot of them offer or the stunning visuals and colors that some offer up as well. Dropchord stands out with its completely original electronic soundtrack and visuals that for lack of a better description will almost hypnotize you into wanting to play more. You’ll need to conquer music driven challenges and rack up your score, all while listening to the games background music which is comprised of ten original full length electronic tracks that play seamlessly like a DJ set. Play either Standard or Full Mix modes, and climb the leaderboards for bragging rights. If you like rhythm games, definitely check out Dropchord. It’ll set you back a mere $0.99
8-Choplifter HD
This beautiful HD remake of the original Choplifter game brings stunning visuals and even better gameplay to a loveable retro classic. Take on the role of an up and coming rescue pilot and do your duty. You’ll be saving survivors of viral outbreaks and shaking off zombies from the helicopter and extracting military prisoners of war over 30 different missions. You’ll have plenty of different choppers to pilot, and tons of unforgiving terrain and conditions in which you must do your job. Choplifter HD was developed by the same team that help put together The remake of A Bard’s Tale, inXile Entertainment, which is one of the reasons I’m convinced the visuals are as good as they are. Anyone have an urge for some retro games all of a sudden? Fish out $4.99 and you can have Choplifter HD to take up some of your weekend.
7-Bloodsword THD
Sadly, Bloodsword THD is as the name suggests, exclusive to tegra 3 and 4 devices. That doesn’t stop it from reaching number 7 on our list this month though. It’s still a fantastic game and a Dungeon Crawler no less. Brought to us by OneQ Soft, Bloodsword THD has jaw dropping graphics for a mobile title and who doesn’t love some good old hack and slash action. The only downside I can see here is the lack of a storyline. If that’s not what you’re after though you just might want to give this a shot. Especially if you’re the proud owner of a shiny brand new Nvidia SHIELD that sports a tegra 4 chip. If you enjoyed Dark Avenger, Bloodsword THD should hold your attention.
6-Guardian Cross
TCG games are becoming increasingly popular on Android by the day and why not focus on one from a major developer like Square Enix? Guardian Cross mixes the TCG and RPG genres to bring a truly unique gaming experience to Android in the form of card battles. Unlike other TCG games, you’ll collect some of the cards in your deck by hunting down creatures called guardians with your enchanted rifle. Catch as many as you can and add them to your collection to create an overwhelming guardian army that is unbeatable. You can undertake quests to uncover bits and pieces of the story behind the guardians and even compete for limited rewards in a coliseum. PvP events are held weekly as well so if you crave multiplayer action you can engage in it often with Guardian Cross. Unlike most Square Enix titles on mobile, Guardian Cross is free so head on over to the play store and download a copy.
5-Siegecraft Defender
Tower Defense games are great, but infinitely better when you incorporate the elements that Crescent Moon Games has into them. Siegecraft Defender takes your standard Tower Defense and adds in things like hard to beat stunning 3D graphics, local hotseat multiplayer, and endless single player maps for infinite gameplay. I’ve long been a fan of Tower Defense games and I was a fan of the Original Siegecraft game so why not marry the two? 15 towers and 18 units that are usable in over 30 levels with over 10 hours of campaign mode is worth every penny you’ll spend to buy this game. Which isn’t that much actually. $2.99 is all it’ll take to land you a copy of this wonderful title from Crescent Moon Games.
4-Contra Evolution
No need to break out either of the old Nintendo systems for this, Contra: Evolution brings all the action that you’d remember from childhood straight to your android device. Run and gun as the original two characters or play as two new heroes. Contra Evolution keeps true to the unforgiving side scrolling action with a few new tricks here and there like some new levels and updated HD graphics. If you played Contra growing up, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on this modernized addition to the classic Contra series. You’ll sweat, you’ll curse, you might even punch a few holes in the wall from all the vein popping frustration you’re about to endure, but it’ll all be worth it in the end when you beat that last boss. Just like old times eh?
3-Sine Mora
All I have to say is it’s about damn time. Sine Mora has been available for PC, Xbox live, PS3 and iOS and now we’re finally getting a chance to play this gorgeous side scrolling shoot em’ up title. Sine Mora offers beautifully designed graphics in 7 stages, with a compelling story mode that’ll leave you wanting to play more. Once you finish story mode you can jump into arcade mode and continue the adventure. There’s over 50 different weapon combinations to help you destroy anything that stands in the way of your progression, and the game serves up scaling difficulty to match the skill levels of the players. Manipulate time, or just destroy everything in your path. There are four different control schemes so even if you’ve never played a shoot em up game before, it should be easy to dive in. As of right now Sine Mora is on sale for $2.99 so if you’re thinking of picking it up now is the time to do it.
2-The Respawnables
The Respawnables is just what android needed in the way of a third person shooter. A multiplayer experience that not only grabs the attention of the shooter fans but keeps them coming back with the action they love and the laughter that will split their sides. The Respawnables follows in the footsteps of a classic favorite on steam(Team Fortress 2) and brings a similar loveable play style to the popular shooter multiplayer universe. There are more than 100 single player missions to complete, only to be followed up with the fast paced online multiplayer action that makes shooters so popular. One of the best things about The Respawnables is that the levels are short, 3 minutes to be exact, so you can play quick little matches here and there or on the go anytime you have a few spare moments. You can play against your Facebook friends while connected to either wifi or 3g/4g so there’s no losing out on the fun. You’ll also find that there are many customizable options to suit your personal taste from character costumes and look to all the different weapon loadouts you can use to take out your foes. The Respawnables is probably the most fun I’ve had in any online multiplayer shooter experience on android. Period!
1-Asphalt 8:Airborne
Is it any surprise that Gameloft’s most recent addition to the Asphalt series came up as number one? It shouldn’t be, and for good reason. The game is simply stunning in just about every way. The visuals are amazing and hard to take your eyes off of, and the racing action is on par with that of console experiences. Asphalt 8 has much to offer fans of the racing genre, including fast paced matches whether in career mode or local multiplayer. Google play games services help you connect with and race against your friends and show your stuff on the leaderboards. Connect through Google+ or Facebook. Tons of different cars to race including some of the sexiest vehicles some of us can only wish to drive(47 in all), and you will get to do so in 9 new exotic locations. Upbeat and energy driven heart pumping music to keep you rev’d up and on your game sets the tone for every action packed race. Can’t find the time to link up over local wifi and race against a buddy? Not to worry as you’ll have an opportunity to race against an uploaded ghost on many different races. All these features and so much more have earned Asphalt 8: Airborne the number one spot on the list this month and its easy to see why. If you haven’t already grabbed this game, let go of the $0.99 it’ll cost you to download it. At that price it’s a steal and worth every cent.
