This afternoon, I got a nice little surprise. The LG G2 on AT&T. I feel like I say this about every device, but it’s one of the most anticipated devices of the year. Not the same way that the Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3 were the most anticipated. This is basically LG’s coming out year. They had a great year last year with the LG Optimus G and the Nexus 4. Which they are continuing that momentum with the LG Optimus G Pro in the first half of 2013 and now the LG G2 in the second half. Luckily, the G2 is available on all four carriers, unlike the Optimus G and Optimus G Pro before it.
The LG G2 was announced just over a month ago in NYC, on August 7th. The device is quite a bit different from your typical flagship device. For instance the Power and Volume rocker are on the back instead of the sides. The front is basically all screen. There’s very minimal bezels, which makes it look good. I’ve been using the Galaxy Mega 6.3 as my daily driver for the past week or so. Now coming to the G2, it seems so small. But it does have a 5.2-inch display and it’s just barely bigger than the Nexus 4. One of my favorite features so far of the LG G2 has been the KnockON feature. Basically you double tap the screen to turn on/off your display. Instead of hitting the power button on the back. This is the geek inside me talking but, damn this is cool.
The G2 is also sporting a 1080p IPS display, which makes the colors look so bright and natural. It’s also packing a 3000mAh battery, which so far has been giving me some pretty good battery life. As you can see from the screenshot above. I got the phone, immediately plugged it in. Once it got to 100% unplugged it and started setting it up with my apps and stuff and even ran a couple benchmarks on there. So looks pretty good so far. Of course, we’ll be able to better gauge the battery life when I do the full review (probably sometime next week).
There are a ton of features on the G2. Of course, I can’t talk about each one right now as I haven’t had time to check out each feature. But so far I’m really loving this device.
