Bump has been around forever it seems like. I remember when I first got the Motorola DROID way back in the day, Bump was one of the most popular apps on the Android Market. As well as on the Apple App Store, yes I had an iPod Touch as well. Now this great data-sharing app has been bought by Google. A post written today by their CEO David Lieb, confirms that the company is now part of Google. Per usual, there’s not a whole lot on this agreement just yet. But I’d expect to see more on it in the coming days. We also don’t know how much Google spent on Bump to buy the company, or why Google bought them. Perhaps they feel NFC is dead and are using Bump for leverage?
Lieb did say in his post that Bump and Flock (which is a Bump-owned photo app) would continue to work as they always have for now. Of course we don’t know how long that “for now” part is going to last. Google said the same thing when they bought Waze. However, as you can see now, Waze is being worked into Google Maps slowly, but surely. It’s also going to be interesting to see how Bump’s usage changes on other platforms like iOS. Although, lately Google has been working to get their services on as many platforms as possible. Which is actually a great idea. It means more people are using your services.
