Those who have access to Google Voice should be happy to hear the news that Google is improving security of the service. Or at least, your Voicemail is about to get that little bit more secure. Starting October 1st, users that wish to check their voicemail from another number other than their own will have to do so from a registered forwarding number on record. If they don’t, they’ll have to also input one of those numbers before inputting the pin. Speaking of which, Google will allow PINs to be as long as 10-digits, up from the 4-digit length they were before.
Google Voice users will probably already know this as those logging in on the Web will have been greeted with the message, as Android Central is reporting. This is hardly one of the biggest updates that the service has seen over the years but, it is a nice improvement for those that worry about their voicemail. It could also suggest that Google is paying closer attention to the service, with an eye to add more features in the future.
Of course, when it comes to something like Google Voice, private information needs to be kept secure and so we’re sure that Google will be adding more security measures in the future. If this new change was a sign of Google bringing new features to the service then it’s going to be interesting to see just what they bring to the table.
With only those in the Americas able to use Google Voice, it would be great to see the service roll out worldwide however, it probably took Google long enough to get US carriers onboard so talks with European giants such as Vodafone, Telefonica et al probably haven’t gone down all that well.
