Welcome back to rumor weekend. The latest rumors are making their way out of Korea. Where LG is looking to start working on a new phablet to rival the Xperia Z Ultra. Just to refresh everyone’s memory, the Xperia Z Ultra has a 6.44-inch 1080p display with a Snapdragon 800 on board.
LG’s model is expected to match the 6.4-inch display. But instead of a 1920×1080 display, LG is looking to go bigger, or is it just more pixels? The Xperia Z Ultra features 342 pixels per inch. While the LG phablet is going to be 418 pixels per inch according to this rumor. Speculation is also telling us that we’ll have 3GB of RAM, along with a rear-facing 8MP camera along with Android 4.4 KitKat. It’s surprising to see a 8MP camera, considering the G2 has a 13MP camera.
This leaves me wondering if this is going to be the new Optimus G Pro. Earlier this year, LG introduced their first phablet, which was a 5.5-inch device to rival the Galaxy Note 2. Perhaps LG is going to go to a 6.4-inch device for the Optimus G Pro, well it would be the G Pro. If LG builds this phablet like the G2, than the 6.4-inch device is going to be really small, compared to the Xperia Z Ultra. The G2’s bezels are so small, and I’d love to have that on their phablet.
There are other rumors about phablets coming out soon. Including a phablet running Windows Phone 8, the Nokia Lumia 1520. There’s also the Galaxy Note 3, which is a 5.7-inch display with thinner bezels, making it the same overall size as the Galaxy Note 2. Not to mention the HTC One Max, that’s rumored to be coming out sometime this year. Only one of those are announced and confirmed. It looks like Samsung’s about to get some great competition in the phablet game. Which is great for those that love the bigger screens. Competition means choice. As well as better hardware and software.
