The Moto X is a nicely built device. Yes it’s still plastic, but if you compare it to the Galaxy S4 or even the Motorola DROID Mini, Maxx and Ultra, it is a much better build of plastic. Having said that, after the Moto X was released we saw the reviews, and the drop tests. But now we are seeing a new kind of test. It’s a test of the Moto X against keys, a knife and a hammer. Now the keys part I get since most people have their keys and phone in the same pocket or even purse for the ladies. But the hammer and knife test have me a bit puzzled. You can see the entire test down below.
As far as the results go, the screen performed the best out of everything. Thanks to the Gorilla Glass that’s on the device. The back of the phone did okay although it was damaged. The side of the Moto X got beat up pretty badly by the knife and mallet. So keeping that in mind, if you put your phone in your pocket with your keys and such, your Moto X should fair pretty well. Then if your day consists of being at a construction site or dropping hammers on your Moto X, you may want to leave it at home or get a more sturdy phone like the Caterpiller B1 or one of the Casio devices on Verizon.
These are the types of tests I hate to see. The Moto X is such a great device, I hate seeing people destroy it for a drop test or a keys test. I get why they do it, I just don’t like it. But that is my opinion. It’s nice to see that you can keep your phone in your same pocket as your keys, although I’ve never done it, but I’d still through a case on my Moto X. Unless you got a customized one. Then I’d tough it out.
