We’ve been hearing a lot about Oppo’s upcoming N1, in rumors and leaks. As well as more than a few teases from the company themselves. Today in China, the company finally took the wraps off of their latest toy and it’s certainly a unique smartphone in today’s world. The Oppo N1 is one of the first Android devices to ship with a camera that swivels. That’s right, the 13MP camera that the N1 is all about does overtime as both the front and the rear-facing camera. At 5.9-inches, the N1 is larger than most other flagships but, Oppo has really gone to town with this one.
Shall we start the specs on this one?
- 5.9-inch Full HD Display
- Quad-Core Snapdragon 600 at 1.7 Ghz
- 2GB of RAM
- 16 or 32GB of Internal Storage
- 13MP Camera with Dual-LED Flash and six-element lens
- 3,610 mAh Battery
- Android 4.2 with Oppo’s ColorOS and CyanogenMod Option coming soon
- Backside touch panel
As you can see, the movable camera section does leave an impression on the devices’s design but, overall things are nice and clean here. The display takes up most of the front panel of the device, with little in the way of bezels and the rear of the device looks nice and clean.
The camera is of course where Oppo has focused most of its efforts. They’re calling the N1 the first Android smartphone to feature a six-element arrangement and they’ve taken care with the camera and its hinge. The company says that the device will hold up to 100,000 rotations back and forth. Which is about 7 years of use if you rotate it 40 times a day. The camera is activated in just 0.6 seconds and features some nifty features like long exposures of up to 8 seconds.
Software is another side of the story, too. Oppo say that the ColorOS featured on the N1 is the result of 10-months’ worth of work from 240 developers and 43 new patents. Some cute features like weather-interactive icons and pattern drawing for app launching should make ColorOS a welcome addition. However, for those that appreciate hardware more than anything will be able to install a fully-working version of CyanogenMod – thanks to the company’s first collaboration – shortly after launch.
Speaking of the launch, the device is going on sale sometime in October for around $570 for 16GB in local currency. Will the N1 make it worldwide? Only time will tell but, we’re optimistic about a more global launch. For more information, you can check out the N1 at Oppo’s Website and there’s a short and sweet YouTube video below.
